ABOUT ROOTS REVEALED - A professional genealogy, family history research and tour guiding service

About Natalie Bodle founder of Roots Revealed - Genealogist, Family Historian, Tour Guide and Educator

Hello, my name is Natalie Bodle and my company Roots Revealed, is a Professional Genealogy and Family History Research Service that is based in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.  This is just 30 minutes from Belfast where wonderful archives and respositories such as the Public Records Office Northern Ireland (PRONI), The General Register Office Northern Ireland (GRONI), The Linenhall Library, The Newspaper Library, The Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland Archives, etc are located.

I have many years’ experience of researching family trees and found genealogy such an absorbing and interesting hobby that I decided to work towards a professional qualification: I completed Post Graduate Certificate in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies with the University of Strathclyde, with the aim of setting up my own business as a genealogist and family historian.

An initial assessment by email is free of charge.  The more information you can supply about your ancestors from Ireland, Northern Ireland, or Ulster, the easier it will be to determine how likely it is that I will be able to find information in the relevant records.

Before undertaking any genealogy research work, we’ll determine what you already know, how much ancestral research has been completed, what Irish records you have found that can be linked to your ancestor.  I'll ask you to tell me your objectives, i.e. what information do you hope to find on your ancestor and following your free assessment, I will let you know how many hours it would take to complete the required genealogical research.  We will then agree a budget up front and work will only be undertaken after it has been agreed by you and when you have signed and returned a Client Agreement.

There is no wish to duplicate work already completed, but some checking of information supplied by you may be required if it seems that earlier researches are incomplete or incorrect or conclusions unjustified.

Negative searches still need to be charged for and they will be detailed in your written report.

You will be provided with a written report that will make it clear what searches have been undertaken, what Irish records have been examined and what has or has not been found, along with an evaluation of any evidence.  The report will be fully referenced and will include where possible images and copies of documentation.  (Note that some providers place restrictions on the provision of images or copies of documentation).

An initial fee is chargeable at the agreed fee per hour for an agreed number of hours, payable in advance. Should you require additional work, a suggested schedule of research and costs will be negotiated. Other charges such as travel (45p per mile), photocopying and the cost of certificates will be billed upon completion of each contracted stage of the project.  Research time includes travel as well as personal, telephone and/or e-mail consultations and writing up the report.

Please see each service for more detailed information about costs.

Depending upon the size of the research project, it may be possible for you to pay in instalments  - just mention this when making an enquiry.

Once you have signed and returned your Client Agreement for genealogical research services, you have 14 calendar days in which to change your mind.  Your payment will be reimbursed to you minus any costs that have already been incurred.  Roots Revealed Cancellation of Contract Form may be found here.

Should you wish to cancel your place on the Genealogy Evening Course, the Cancellation of Course and Refund of Fees may be found here.
