Exploring Your Roots Genealogy Evening Course
Updated: Aug 31, 2020
Would you like to research your family history, but don't know where to start? Are you unsure about what records are available or how to get the most out of them and which websites and resources are most useful? Or perhaps you've come up against a brick wall and need some help to get over it?
Perhaps you would like to take a DNA test, but aren't sure which is the best one to take, or you've already taken a DNA test but aren't sure what to do with the results or what they're telling you?
Then the 'Exploring Your Roots' Genealogy Evening Course is just what you're looking for and is now available to book. It is being delivered in collaboration between Mid-Antrim Museum (part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council) and Roots Revealed.
It is aimed at a broad range of family historians from those who are just starting to trace their family tree, to those who have been researching for some time, but would like to know how to make more progress.
Each week we will cover a range of topics and records, including for example, civil registration of births, deaths and marriages, church records, burial records, land valuations, census and census substitutes, military records, newspapers and other printed material such as street directories, gazetteers and maps, and a range of other records including estate, occupation, workhouse, emigration and criminal records. We will also have a Getting Started with DNA module looking at the different types of DNA tests you can do and how to get the best out of them.
Each week you will recieve a copy of PowerPoint slides and also an email with links to the various resources for each topic.
The 'Exploring Your Roots' Genealogy Evening Course starts on 24 March 2020 in Ballymena, Co Antrim. It runs for 11 weeks with a break on Easter week and will include a visit to PRONI. The course costs £85.
