The latest Genealogy: Researching Your Family History Course ran for 8 weeks from March to May 2019.

It was held for 2 hours each evening in the All Saints Parish Centre, Ballymena.

The course had been commissioned by the Carson Project as a cross-community project as part of their Peace Impact work and they fully funded the course.

All places were snapped up in less than 48 hours after being advertised which certainly shows that there is a great interest in family history and finding out more about our ancestors and the lives they led.

There was always a great buzz in the classroom as people made new friends and heard about each other's success in tracking down their ancestors. Don't just take my word for it, but check out the video.

The course finished off with a walking tour of Ballymena - we got an absolutely glorious day for it and then a lovely lunch in the Adair Arms Hotel, Ballymena. Following lunch and over tea and coffee, everyone told their story about what they had found out about their family history as a result of coming on the course. A great day was had by all.

The course evaluations certainly show that folk got a lot out of the course and they they enjoyed it - it was a pleasure to teach!

The next Genealogy: Researching Your Family History Course starts on Monday 16 September 2019 and will be delivered in Ballymena North, Ballymena. It will run for 10 evenings and an additional date will be arranged for a visit to the Public Records Office Northern Ireland (PRONI) at Belfast.

The course will cover the different types of Irish and Northern Irish record sets that may be used to find your ancestors, such as birth, death, marriage, church, census, military, local government, workhouse, land, education, occupation, wills, poll, law and order and emigration. We'll cover the 'need to know' areas such as understanding townlands and parishes. We will also look at DNA and include the best websites to do your research as well as good practice and tips to save you time and money.

The cost of this course is £85 and you can find out more and book your place here:
